February Newsletter

"No Worries" Scheme

The Practice runs a 'NO WORRIES' scheme for teenagers. Teenagers who would like to see a health professional to discuss matters relating to sexual health or contraception need only to ask at reception for a "no worries" appointment and they will be seen within 30 minutes by a doctor or nurse. 'NO WORRIES' appointments can also be booked over the 'phone and again young people will be seen that day. All consultations are confidential, but please note this service is for school-age teenagers only.

Chronic Disease Clinics

As from April we will be running nurse-run clinics for the following chronic diseases:

As you know, some of these clinics are already well established, but under the new GP contract, we will be running more clinics to ensure patients with chronic illness are seen and monitored regularly. A GP will oversee each clinic. Although patients are free to see the GP of their choice for any problems, they will be encouraged to attend the relevant clinic if they have one of the problems listed above.

New Surgery at Tidworth

As some of you may be aware, the Practice has submitted plans to build a new surgery in Tidworth away from our present site in St George's Road. We are awaiting approval but we hope that the new surgery will be more spacious and we will be able to offer more services in Tidworth as well as in Ludgershall. Watch this space…!

Missed Appointments

As mentioned in the last newsletter, there are a number of appointments that are wasted by patients not turning up and not informing the practice in advance. This means that these appointment times cannot be rebooked and the overall availability of the doctors and nurses is reduced. For the last quarter (October to January) the figures were as follows:

Doctors 337 missed appointments from 8956 booked (3.8%)
Nurses 203 missed appointments from 3598 booked (5.6%)

Those patients who are "persistent offenders" have been written to and if the problem continues, they will be asked to leave the practice. If you cannot attend your appointment, please contact the practice as soon as possible so that your appointment can be offered to somebody else.

Repeat Prescriptions

As you know, requests for repeat prescriptions will not be accepted over the 'phone. Up until now, only paper-written requests, or the computerised repeat prescription form, have been accepted (either handed to reception or posted). However, patients can now request repeat prescriptions by fax or e-mail:

Fax 01264 791256 (Ludgershall)
01980 846824 (Tidworth)
E-mail: prescriptions@thecastlepractice.co.uk (mark subject as "Repeat prescription request")

Please write down the items needed as well as your name, date of birth and address.
