Get the jab, get Flu Safe

With winter approaching, the dreaded flu will soon follow. Now is the time to think ahead and protect your health against the elements by booking an appointment to get a flu vaccination.

Flu is a highly contagious infection that anyone can catch, but it can be very serious for some. For most people flu is a relatively mild illness from which they recover in a week or two - yet every year people become seriously ill because they don't get their free flu jab.

People in the 'at risk' group are more vulnerable to the effects of seasonal flu and it's recognised that they can go on to develop a more serious illness, such as bronchitis and pneumonia.

Flu is not the same as a cold and it affects people of all ages. If you're in any of the at-risk groups listed below you can get a free flu jab from your GP.

The flu jab is completely safe, even for pregnant women, and it can't give you flu as it does not contain any live virus.

Dr Steve Rowlands, Chair for Wiltshire CCG and GP at Bradford Road Medical Centre in Trowbridge says: "We are encouraging everyone who is at risk to make sure they get the flu jab. Flu vaccinations also protect pregnant women, their unborn babies and even protect their babies up to six months after birth. We want all vulnerable people across Wiltshire to be flu safe this year."

Get the best protection for yourself and your family by being flu free this winter and book your appointment today.
